Facebook Updates and New Features

Facebook announced a recent update this week on their mobile notifications feature. Users can now receive mobile alerts for important events and activities. In addition, they updated their messenger app to allow users to send messages to any user on the site. Facebook also unveiled a new “slideshow” feature to substitute ads in place of videos, when connections are running slow.

The New Artificial Intelligence System Handling Google’s Queries

Google has been utilizing RankBrain – a machine-learning artificial intelligence system – to process a significant amount of search results on a daily basis. RankBrain interprets a user’s search and understands how to submit a request to the search in a variety of ways. This new system, however, is not replacing Google’s search algorithm.

Twitter’s New Social Listening Metric

This week Twitter announced TrueVoice, a new social listening metric on the social network. TrueVoice shows advertisers their conversations with followers and measures impressions to show how different campaigns are producing organic brand mentions.

Trustworthy Accountability Group (TAG) Will Legitimize Ad Buyers and Sellers

Many prominent ad networks and agencies pledged support for “Verified by TAG” this week. TAG will setup a list of legitimate advertisers and publishers. In order to be accepted and certified as legitimate, an advertiser or publisher has to undergo an extensive background check and review process.

New Type of Search for Amazon’s Home Assistant Echo

Amazon announced a new type of search and data source for its voice-activated home assistant Echo. Echo owners will now have access to local business information from Yelp, including addresses, phone numbers, hours of operation and more.
